Beautiful book about a dirty old man. I bought this book in Geneva, when I had 6 hours to kill there and didn't want to talk to any Swiss. I finished it on the way back on the aeroplane, sometimes worried that people would read over my shoulder.

Bizarre old book, which I read on the sofa of Thames Rowing Club on a hot day.

Very strong first chapter, but let down by extended Euro-satire that feels irrelevant now.
The Map and the Territory by Michel Houellebecq — September 2026
Very fun read, and another book that touches on the subject of dirty old men - in this case, Michel Houellebecq himself.
